New Trends in Plastic Packaging Materials in Europe

The new PEN packaging material is the leader. PEN has better barrier properties than PET, especially with gas barrier and UV protection properties, good heat resistance, and normal amorphous PEN thermal deformation. The temperature can reach 100 degrees Celsius, while PET is only 70 degrees Celsius. It has broad prospects for the packaging of beverages, beer and cosmetics. Since the adoption of industrial means to produce PEN has made progress, PEN is expected to enter the packaging field in large quantities in the near future, triggering yet another packaging revolution after PET.

With the implementation of the international environmental standard IS014000, new degradable plastics have attracted much attention. Germany's BASF launched a degradable polyester resin branded as Econexa's aliphatic and aromatic acids that can be used in film production. According to information, the demand for degradable plastics in Western Europe is 20,000 tons per year. It is mainly used in compost bags, garbage bags, plastic film, composite paper, fast food containers and beverage cups.

Metallocene polymers introduce many new varieties. Metallocene plastics will directly impact the plastics market such as PP, MDPE, LLDPE, and elastomers. At present, the demand for PE in the world market is 40 million tons, which is expected to increase to 50 million tons by the end of 2005. Most of the increase will be metallocene polyethylene. Metallocene plastics have many advantages, such as good gloss, high melt strength and good film stability. They are suitable for food packaging, pharmaceutical packaging, shrink film and hygiene products.

The extrusion foamed PP sheet from A-MUT of Italy is the latest development of foam plastic products. It uses MONTELL's high-viscosity resin, high-strength polypropylene (HMSPP), PP homopolymer and low-ODP chemical foaming agent to produce a dense and uniform distribution of foamed polypropylene sheet (EPP) with a density of 0.6kg per cubic meter. At present, the amount of foamed PP is only 12.5% of the foamed material. Compared with PP sheets with the same properties, the foamed PP products have a low density and can save 20% of raw materials, thereby saving 20% of the expenses required to destroy the ecological environment.

In recent years, medical packaging plastics have attracted people's attention. According to relevant reports, drug packaging has grown at a rate of 7% per year, far exceeding the annual growth rate of 2.5% for drugs. Bayer AG developed intravenous injection molding polycarbonate (PC) packaging materials and Branu Medicaf developed injection molding polyamide (PA) materials. The PP packaging material PP developed by PCD Polymers Austria is safe to use and easy to recycle. In addition, 300um transparent sheet blister packs produced with PP copolymers can be heat-sealed using conventional methods.

Pleated Blinds

Pleated blinds and contemporary style just go – the clean, orderly design is a perfect match. And they only use a small space at a window, which is great for enhancing the sense of openness in a cramped room. When lowered, Pleated blinds with standard fabrics allow sunlight to gently filter into a room, creating a cosy effect. Meanwhile, blackout fabrics are ideal for bedrooms, where they`ll help stop the dawn sun waking you in the early morning. Pleated blinds are great at preventing heat escaping through your windows. So you can dial down the thermostat and save on energy bills while staying snug through winter.
